week of 12/12/07

On a night we only really covered two verses, we had some good discussion. We unpacked Matthew 7:13-14, talking about the narrow way & the broad way.

Many times its so easy to follow the 'broad' path. Its our natural inclination, the path of least resistance. What is confusing is how we as followers of Jesus Christ at times try to walk both paths - We understand that the broad path leads to destruction, pain, misery, and brokenness and still we foolishly return to it.

It is then our responsibility to be aware of our areas of weakness, and to focus not as much on what we do, but on who God is. The key to remaining on the narrow path is found in remaining in God in the NOW of our lives. We discussed in some detail how its so easy to believe in what God has done and will do, but we miss out on the God in our everyday lives (check previous post for more info). As we grow in Him, the way we live will change as a result, and our impact will begin to be more than we ever believed possible. Suddenly we aren't giving out of emptiness, but as the Spirit of God leads us, He is minister in the overflow of our lives.

If over the last several weeks some of these thoughts appear to be overlapping, its because they do. Jesus is painting the picture that our relentless pursuit of God is the single most important thing.

May we understand that God does not expect us to be clean before we come, but simply that we come just as we are.

Next weeks reading: Matthew 7 starting in verse 15

Peace to you my friends,
