Below are the details of the fast we discussed last night. My strong suggestion is that you recap the last 3 weeks of notes (1/15, 1/22 and 1/29) so you understand what we are doing and why we are doing it.
Remember! Fasting is not just giving up food. It is a spiritual exercise and discipline. It is not a matter of just going through the motions, but a matter of the motives of our heart to remind us what is the MOST important and BEST way to live. It restores balances in our lives. Isaiah 58 reminds us that God is watching our motives, not just our external actions.

What you see below is only a guideline. Your fast is personal, and because of that don't feel obligated to the exact fast the rest of us are doing.
THE FAST
Phase 1:
12:01 AM Wednesday February 6th through 11:59PM Saturday March 15th
DIET
Our diet will include fruits, vegetables, eggs, breads, pasta, chicken, fish and water and fruit juices. We are giving up processed foods including sugar, all desserts, all sodas, caffeine and meat (with the exception of chicken and fish).
LIFESTYLE
Because the point of this fast is to focus on the spiritual and break our bondage to the physical, we are also giving up media, including TV, movies, video games, and unnecessary internet use (some of you may be required to use this at work - that is fine). Some alternative uses of our time including spending quality time with family & friends, looking for the needs of those around us, reading scripture, memorizing scripture, praying, journaling and reading other books that encourage or challenge. We will publish daily scripture readings to help give you a pattern to follow and to give us discussion points as we journey through our fast together.
Phase 2:
12:01AM Palm Sunday March 16th - 6:00PM Thursday March 20th
DIET
Fruits, Vegetables and Water only.
LIFESTYLE
Same as above, abstaining from media, focusing on spending quality time with family & friends, looking for the needs of those around us, reading scripture, memorizing scripture, praying, journaling and reading other books that encourage or challenge.
Phase 3:
6:00PM Thursday March 20th - 6:00PM Friday March 21st
DIET
Water only.
LIFESTYLE
Same as above, abstaining from media, focusing on spending quality time with family & friends, looking for the needs of those around us, reading scripture, memorizing scripture, praying, journaling and reading other books that encourage or challenge.
Phase 4:
6:01PM Friday March 21, we break our fast together with a celebration of freedom and reminder of what Christ has done for us! This will be a time of testimonies, music, food, and connection. All are welcome to come!

*please note, fasts while having many health benefits, can also be dangerous if you have certain medical conditions. if you have low blood sugar for example, you may consider some other options when it comes to the diet portion of our fast.
