Daily Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-7
This was really encouraging for me personally - Peter uses phrases like we have great expectations, priceless inheritance, truly glad, wonderful joy... then he throws in the idea of how important suffering is to our faith.
Peter uses the illustration of gold being purified, and says that our faith is far more precious than gold! Going through trials helps reveal the truth of the things inside of us. As these impurities are brought to light, we can remove them - choosing what is better. In some of the passages we have read during our fast, we are reminded that Christ understands our suffering, that He suffered and understands our weakness. Suffering truly purifies us.
Last night at roots, we discussed some of the readings from week 1 and week 2 we've had during our fast. Next week, make sure to bring your notes/journals from the readings!
